In about 200 words, share a story demonstrating one of the five Dimensions of Culture discussed in this week’s lecture. It could be a story of someone elses’s experience. The story should reflect the differences in cultural values and how these differences were either handled well or poorly, including any lessons that might have been learned from the experience.
Five Dimensions of Culture
Identity: Individualism/Collectivism The individualism/collectivism dimension describes how members of cultural groups view themselves in relation to the group. That is, it seeks to determine cultural views of identity.
Context: High Context/Low Context This dimension measures the degree to which context matters in verbal and nonverbal communication.
Time: Time vs. Event This dimension describes and measures the value of time across cultures.
Activity: Doing (Task-Oriented)/Being (Relationship-Oriented) What is the value of activity?
Hierarchy: High/Low Power Distance The dimension of hierarchy looks at how cultures value hierarchy within their societies. It considers what degree of power distance is considered acceptable within cultures.
